  PRIMARY - SECTION CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The British National Curriculum will be followed with minor alterations, to suit the local linguistic and cultural traditions. Text books will be used to support learning but will not be the only basis for lessons. Children will be encouraged, to learn from a wide variety of sources including discussion, hands-on experimental projects investigation, and through carefully chosen artifacts, reference books, films and the web-sites. At all times, they will be encouraged, to develop their thinking and creative skills.

English
The literacy strategy will be followed, with its emphasis on exposing children, to a wide variety of genres of literature from many cultures. Children will be encouraged, to read widely and write creatively and purposely using a wide vocabulary, good grammar and spelling.

Mathematics
The numeracy strategy will be followed enabling children, to develop mathematical skills at their own pace and level. There is an emphasis on mental maths, investigation and developing problem solving skills.

Science
The science curriculum covers four main areas: living things, materials, forces and motion and investigation. All these will be covered during the primary curriculum, with appropriate practical experimentation and investigation.

History and Geography
The British curriculum for History and Geography will be followed. History will focus on ancient civilizations, the Tudors and the Victorians and major world events. A local history and Indian history element will be added and research skills will be developed. Geography will be taught through topics and project work which will be linked where possible to practical experiences.

Religious Education
The main world religions will be studied to develop understanding and empathy of their faiths and traditions. All main festivals will be celebrated and acknowledged as rich parts of our global culture.

The Arts
Drawing, painting, carft, music and drama will be taught independently, as well as being imparted across the curriculum. Children will be exposed to many styles of art and music and given opportunity to experiment and develop their own styles, as well as learn to appreciate.

ICT
Technology will be used across the curriculum and use of computers and the internet is an acknowledged part of learning.

P.E
Two sessions of PE will be held each week. One will focus on yoga/dance or movement and the other will be on ball skills and gamesmanship. Matches will be arranged where appropriate.

 
  • Students are accepted for entry at any time throughtout the school year.
  • Interview with the Principal/Vice Principal and or test, plus possibly a day spent in the school
